EMERGENCY IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (NO. 351) (WOVEN ARTIFICIAL TEXTILE AND UNION FABRICS) ORDER, 1955.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Emergency Imposition of Duties Act, 1932 (No. 16 of 1932), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 351) (Woven Artificial Textile and Union Fabrics) Order, 1955.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 340) (Woven Artificial Textile and Union Fabrics) Order, 1954 ( S.I. No. 228 of 1954 ), shall as respects articles imported on or after the 8th day of July, 1955, have effect as if—

(a) in paragraph 4 " whichever of the following rates produces in respect of each particular article the greater amount of duty, that is to say, fifty per cent. of the value of the article or one shilling and threepence per square yard " were substituted for " the rate of an amount equal to fifty per cent. of the value of the article " ;

(b) in paragraph 5—

(i) subparagraph (a) were deleted ;

(ii) the following subparagraph were added after subparagraph (j) :—

" (jj) is umbrella cloth ; or " ;

(iii) " wholly or partly " were inserted before " of a synthetic or artificial textile " in clause (i) of sub-paragraph (k) ;

(iv) " or in the manufacture of headsquares or handkerchiefs " were inserted after " furnishing cloth " in clause (ii) of subparagraph (k) ; and

(v) the following clause were added after clause (v) of subparagraph (k) :—

" (va) is a fancy woven cloth which is suitable for any of the following purposes, that is to say :—

(I) the upholstering or covering of furniture ;

(II) the manufacture of curtains ; or

(III) the upholstering of vehicles ; or " ; and

(c) in subparagraph (a) of paragraph 11—

" a rate were specified in the fourth column of the said Schedule opposite the mention of the said articles in the said second column equal to whichever of the following rates produces in each particular case the greater amount of duty :

(i) the rate of an amount equal to thirty-three and one-third per cent. of the value of the article, or

(ii) the rate of tenpence per square yard "

were substituted for—

" the rate of an amount equal to thirty-three and one-third per cent. of the value of the article were specified in the fourth column of the said Schedule opposite the mention of the said articles in the said second column."
