Public Assistance.

Persons eligible for public assistance.

18.—(1) A poor person who is unable to provide by his own industry or other lawful means the necessaries of life (other than medical, surgical or dental treatment, medicines, and medical, surgical or dental appliances) for himself or any persons whom he is liable under this Act to maintain shall be eligible for general assistance.

(2) A poor person who is unable to provide by his own industry or other lawful means the medical, surgical or dental treatment, or medicines, or medical, surgical or dental appliances necessary for himself or any persons whom he is liable under this Act to maintain shall be eligible for medical assistance.

(3) References in this Act to persons who are eligible for public assistance shall be construed as including persons who are eligible for general assistance, persons who are eligible for medical assistance, and persons who are eligible for both general assistance and medical assistance.
