MERCHANT SHIPPING (FORMS OF SAFETY CONVENTION CERTIFICATES) RULES, 1935.

SAFETY.

The Merchant Shipping (Forms of Safety Convention Certificates) Rules, 1935, dated the 18th April, 1935, made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce under subsection (3) of Section 15 of the Merchant Shipping (Safety and Load Line Conventions) Act, 1933 .

In pursuance of the powers conferred upon him by Section 15 (3) of the Merchant Shipping (Safety and Load Line Conventions) Act, 1933 , and of all other powers him in this behalf enabling the Minister for Industry and Commerce hereby makes the following Rules:—

1.—(1) These Rules may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Forms of Safety Convention Certificates) Rules, 1935.

(2) In these Rules the expression "the Act" means the Merchant Shipping (Safety and Load Line Conventions) Act, 1933 , and "the Convention" means the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, signed in London on the 31st day of May, 1929.

(3) The Interpretation Act, 1923 , applies to the interpretation of these Rules in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

2. Safety Certificates, Wireless Telegraphy Certificates and Exemption Certificates issued under the provisions of the Act shall correspond in form to that of the respective models set out in Regulation XLVII of Annex I to the Convention.

3. The particulars inserted by hand in the certificates issued, or in certified copies thereof, shall be inserted in Arabic figures and either—

(i) in Roman characters, or

(ii) in other characters than Roman and in Roman characters.

4. A Safety Certificate issued under the provisions of the Act and a Passenger Steamer's Certificate issued under Section 274 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, to the same ship, may be combined in one document.
