S.I. No. 233/2026 - Electoral Act 1997 (Variation of Monetary Amounts) Order 2026

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

I, JAMES BROWNE, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3(1) (inserted by section 7 (a) of the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2011 (No. 14 of 2011)) of the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997) (as adapted by the Housing, Planning and Local Government (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 ( S.I. No. 408 of 2020 )), having regard to change in the consumer price index, hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Electoral Act 1997 (Variation of Monetary Amounts) Order 2026.

2. In Part IV of the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997) the monetary amount specified in -

(a) section 22(2)(aa), is varied to -

(i) in the definition of “accounting unit”, an amount of €125, and

(ii) in the definition of “third party”, an amount of €125,

(b) section 23(1), is varied to an amount of €125,

(c) section 23A(1), is varied to -

(i) in paragraph (i), an amount of €1,250,

(ii) in paragraph (ii), an amount of €3,100, and

(iii) in paragraph (iii), an amount of €250,

(d) section 23AA(1), is varied to an amount of €250,

(e) section 23B(1), is varied to an amount of €125,

(f) section 23C, is varied to an amount of €125,

(g) section 23D(2), is varied to an amount of €250,

(h) section 24, is varied to -

(i) in paragraph (a) of subsection (1A), an amount of €1,850, and

(ii) in subsection (4), an amount of -

(I) €1,850 for €1,500, and

(II) €750 for €600, and

(i) section 26(1), is varied to an amount of €250.

3. In Part VI of the Electoral Act 1997 (No. 25 of 1997) the monetary amount specified in -

(a) section 46(2)(aa), in the definition of “third party”, is varied to €125,

(b) section 47(1), is varied to an amount of €125,

(c) section 48(1), is varied to an amount of €750,

(d) section 48A(1), is varied to -

(i) in paragraph (i), an amount of €1,250,

(ii) in paragraph (ii), an amount of €3,100, and

(iii) in paragraph (iii), an amount of €250,

(e) section 48AA(1), is varied to an amount of €250,

(f) section 48B(1), is varied to an amount of €125, and

(g) section 48C, is varied to an amount of €125.

This order varies, in line with changes in the Consumer Price Index, the permissible limits and donation thresholds provided for in Part IV of the Electoral Act 1997 which apply at elections to Dáil Éireann, Seanad Éireann and the European Parliament as well as to members of the Oireachtas, members of the European Parliament and to the Mayor of Limerick.

It also varies, in line with changes in the Consumer Price Index, the permissible limits and donation thresholds provided for in Part VI of the Electoral Act 1997 which apply at elections for the Office of the President.
