S.I. No. 334/2022 - Social Welfare Act 2021 (Section 8) (Commencement) Order 2022

Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 8th July, 2022.

I, HEATHER HUMPHREYS, Minister for Social Protection, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (3) of the Social Welfare Act 2021 (No. 44 of 2021), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act 2021 (Section 8) (Commencement) Order 2022.

2. The 1st day of July 2022 is appointed as the day on which section 8 of the Social Welfare Act 2021 (No. 44 of 2021) shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

This Order provides for the commencement of section 8 of the Social Welfare Act 2021 with effect from 01 July 2022.

The purpose of section 8 is to provide for an extension of the entitlement to Parent’s Benefit for each qualifying parent from 5 weeks to 7 weeks.
