S.I. No. 553/2019 - Parent’s Leave and Benefit Act 2019 (Commencement of Certain Provisions of Part 5) Order 2019


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 12th November, 2019.

I, REGINA DOHERTY, Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (3) of the Parent’s Leave and Benefit Act 2019 (No. 35 of 2019), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Parent’s Leave and Benefit Act 2019 (Commencement of Certain Provisions of Part 5) Order 2019.

2. The 1st day of November 2019 is appointed as the day on which the following provisions of the Parent’s Leave and Benefit Act 2019 (No. 35 of 2019) shall come into operation:

(a) sections 26 and 27;

(b) section 29 insofar as it relates to the insertion, in Part 2 of the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 (No. 26 of 2005), of Chapter 11B, other than paragraph (b)(ii)(III) of the definition of “relevant parent” in section 61F(1) of that Chapter;

(c) sections 30 to 32.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Part 5 of the Parent’s Leave and Benefit Act 2019 amends the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 to provide for the introduction of Parent’s Benefit.

This Order provides for the commencement of those sections of Part 5 of the Parent’s Leave and Benefit Act 2019 which amend the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 , to enable the introduction of Parent’s Benefit with effect from 1 November 2019.
