I, DERMOT AHERN, Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving effect to Directive 2002/84/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 November 20021 hereby make the following Regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (A system of Mandatory Surveys for the Safe Operation of Regular Ro-Ro Ferries and High-Speed Passenger Craft Services) (Amendment) Regulations 2003. 2. The European Communities (A system of Mandatory Surveys for the Safe Operation of Regular Ro-Ro Ferries and High-Speed Passenger Craft Services Regulations 2001 are amended as follows: | ||||||||
in Regulations 2.(1) in the definition of “Council Directive” by adding “as amended by Directive 2002/84/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 5 November 2002” after “.....29 April 1999”. | ||||||||

These Regulations amend the European Communities (A system of Mandatory Surveys for the Safe Operation of Regular Ro-Ro Ferries and High-Speed Passenger Craft Services) Regulations 2001 in order to improve and accelerate the implementation of Community legislation on maritime safety, the prevention of pollution from ships and shipboard living and working conditions. | ||||||||
