S.I. No. 631/2001 - Licensing of Passenger Boats (Exemption) (Number 2) Regulations, 2001


I, Frank Fahey, Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14A of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1992 (No. 2 of 1992), inserted by section 4 (c) of the Merchant Shipping (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1998 (No. 20 of 1998) hereby make the following regulations:

1(a)    These regulations may be cited as the Licensing of Passenger Boats (Exemption) (Number 2) Regulations, 2001;

(b)   These regulations shall commence on 1st January, 2002 and cease to have effect on 31st December, 2002.

2.       The following classes of vessels are hereby exempted from the requirement to be licensed under section 14 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1992 (No. 2 of 1992):

(a)     vessels having on board passengers for the purpose of angling on rivers, lakes or canals;

(b)     vessels having on board passengers for the purpose of angling in the sea and operating within three miles of land only.

These Regulations specify the classes of vessels which are exempted from the requirement to have a passenger boat licensed under section 14 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1992 (No. 2. of 1992) for 2002 only.
