S.I. No. 613/2001 - Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) (Amendment) (No. 6) (Euro) Regulations, 2001


The Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 (as amended by section 9 of the Social Welfare Act, 2001 (No. 5 of 2001)), 11 (as amended by section 28 of the Social Welfare Act, 2001 ), 12 (2) (as amended by section 37 of the Social Welfare Act, 2001 ) 13 (as amended by section 13 of the Social Welfare Act, 2001 ), 18 (2), 24, 24B (all as amended by section 37 of the Social Welfare Act, 2001 ), 27 (as amended by section 24 of the Social Welfare Act, 1996 (No. 7 of 1996)) of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1993 (No. 27 of 1993) and paragraph 5 of Part II and paragraph 3 of Part III of the First Schedule to the said Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:-

Citation and construction.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) (Amendment) (No. 6) (Euro) Regulations, 2001.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 to 2001 shall be construed together as one and may be cited as the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 to 2001.

Definitions.

2. In these Regulations “the Principal Regulations” means the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 ( S.I. No. 312 of 1996 ).

Commencement.

3. These Regulations come into operation on 1 January 2002.

Amendments consequential on the introduction of the euro.

4. Each provision of the Principal Regulations mentioned in column (1) of the Schedule to these Regulations is amended by the substitution for the amount specified in column (2) of that Schedule opposite the mention of the provision in that column (1) (whether the amount occurs once or more than once in that provision), of the amount specified in column (3) of that Schedule, opposite the mention of the amount specified in that column 2.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation.)

These Regulations provide for the conversion of certain monetary amounts contained in the the Social Welfare (Consolidated Contributions and Insurability) Regulations, 1996 to convenient Euro amounts. This is in line with the introduction of the new Euro currency effective from the 1st January 2002.
