IRISH HORSERACING INDUSTRY ACT, 1994

HORSERACING (ON-COURSE BETTING OFFICE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 2001

The Irish Horseracing Authority in exercise of the powers conferred upon it by sub-section 1(e) of Section 53 of the Irish Horseracing Industry Act, 1994 (as amended by the Horse and Greyhound Racing Act, 2001 ) hereby makes the following Regulations:-

1.       Citation and Commencement

(a)     These Regulations may be cited as the Horseracing (On-course Betting Office) (Amendment) Regulations, 2001;

(b)     These Regulations shall come into effect on the 1st day of December, 2001.

2.       Interpretation

(a)     “The Principal Regulations” when used in these Regulations means the Horseracing (On-course Betting Office) Regulations, 1995;

(b)     Regulation 2 of the Principal Regulations shall apply also to the interpretation of these Regulations;

(c)     Nothing in these Regulations shall prejudice the powers and entitlement of the Authority under the Act.

3.       Extension of opening hours

The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by deleting the text contained in Sections 6(d) and 6(e) and inserting in its place the following:

“(d)    An authorised bookmaker operating from an on-course betting office may open for business -

(i)      on any day in respect of all the hours that registered premises (within the meaning of the Betting Act, 1931 ) are permitted to stay open, and

(ii)      on the day of a race fixture at the racecourse, also from the time that the public are permitted admission to the racecourse and up to two hours after the conclusion at it of the last race where that would exceed the hours referred to in subsection (i) hereof.”
