S.I. No. 411/2001 - Merchant Shipping (Registry, Lettering and Numbering of Fishing Boats) (Amendment) Regulations, 2001.


I, Frank Fahey, Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 373(5) of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894 (57 & 58 Vict. c.60), as amended, extended or adapted by any other enactment, and the Marine (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 301 of 1997 ), hereby make the following Regulations:

1.       These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Registry, Lettering and Numbering of Fishing Boats) (Amendment) Regulations 2001.

2.       The Merchant Shipping (Registry, Lettering and Numbering of Fishing Boats) Regulations, 1997 ( S.I. No. 294 of 1997 ), are hereby amended by the insertion in Rule 3 (1) of the following definition:

“registered length” is the length from the fore part of the stem to the aft side of the head of the stern post, or in a ship not having a sternpost, to the foreside of the rudder stock at the point where the rudder stock passes out of the hull. In ships not having a stern post or a rudder stock the after terminal point is to be taken to the outer face of the transom or stern of the ship. With regard to the forward terminal point the measurement is to be taken to the forward face of the structure above the deepest load waterline which is an integral part of the ship, and is not to include bulbous or ram bow bows, fenders, bowsprits or similar type appurtenances.
