MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT, 1992 (PART II) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1998.

I, MICHAEL WOODS, Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 1 (2) of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1992 (No. 2 of 1992) as adapted by the Marine (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 301 of 1997 ), hereby Order as follows:-

1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping Act, 1992 (Part II) (Commencement) Order, 1998.

2. The 1st day of January, 1999, is hereby fixed as the day on which Part II of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1992 (No. 2 of 1992), shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Part II of the Merchant Shipping Act 1992 provides a framework for the implementation of the Directive 98/18/EC. This has not been implemented to date. This S.I. implements this section of the Act.
