COUNTY OF LOUTH LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER, 1998

The Minister for the Environment and Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 24 of the Local Government Act, 1994 (No. 8 of 1994), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the County of Louth Local Electoral Areas Order, 1998.

2. (1) The County of Louth shall be divided into the local electoral areas which are named in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

(2) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area set forth in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

(3) The number of members of the council of the County of Louth to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set forth in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of that local electoral area.

3. Every reference in the Schedule to this Order to an electoral division, borough or urban district shall be construed as referring to such electoral division, borough or urban district as existing at the date of this Order.

4. (1) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to a line drawn along any road, street, place or bridge shall be construed as a reference to an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, street, place or bridge.

(2) A reference in the Schedule to this Order to the point at which any road, street, place or bridge, or imaginary projection intersects or joins a boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which an imaginary line drawn along the centre of such road, street, place or bridge, or in the case of an imaginary projection along the projection, would intersect or join such boundary.

5. The Louth County Council Order 1942, the Louth County Council (Amendment) Order, 1974 ( S.I. No. 32 of 1974 ) and Article 8 of the County Electoral Areas (Amendment) Order, 1985 ( S.I. No. 109 of 1985 ) are hereby revoked.

Drogheda East

That part of the borough of Drogheda situated north and east of a line drawn as follows:—

commencing at the intersection of the southern boundary of the borough by Dublin Road (N1); thence commencing in a north—

easterly direction and proceeding along Dublin Road and James Street to the junction of James Street with the approach road to the Boyne Bridge (N1); thence commencing in a south-westerly direction along the said road to its junction with Rathmullen Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along the road which links the said approach road with the Boyne Bridge and along Boyne Bridge, George's Street, North Road and the Drogheda-Belfast Road (N1) to the intersection of the last-mentioned road by the northern boundary of the borough;

the electoral divisions of Clogher, Dysart, Mullary and Termonfeckin;

and those parts of the electoral divisions of Monasterboice and St. Peters situated north and east of a line drawn along the Drogheda-Belfast Road (N1).

Drogheda West

That part of the borough of Drogheda not included in the local electoral area of Drogheda East;

and those parts of the electoral divisions of Monasterboice and St. Peter's not situated in the electoral area of Drogheda East.

Dundalk Carlingford

That part of the urban district of Dundalk situated north of a line drawn as follows:—

commencing at the intersection of the western boundary of the urban district by Carrickmacross Road; thence commencing in a north-easterly direction and proceeding along Carrickmacross Road, Carrickmacross Road Bridge and St. Dominick's Place to the junction of St. Dominick's Place with the Crescent; thence in a north-easterly direction along the Crescent to its junction with Anne Street, passing in a clockwise direction around and excluding the roundabout at the Crescent; thence in a north-easterly direction along Anne Street to its junction with Park Street; thence in a north-easterly direction along Park Street and Francis Street to its junction with Roden Place; thence in a north-easterly direction along Roden Place, Jocelyn Street and Seatown Place to the junction of Seatown Place with the Dundalk Inner Relief Road; thence in a north-westerly projection along the Dundalk Inner Relief Road to its intersection by the imaginary north-easterly projection of the road known as St. Helena; thence in a north-easterly direction along the said imaginary projection to its intersection by the eastern boundary of the urban district

in Dundalk Harbour;

the electoral divisions of Ballymascanlan, Barronstown, Carlingford, Creggan Upper, Drummullagh, Faughart, Greenore, Jenkinstown, Rathcor, Ravensdale;

that part of the electoral division of Castletown situated north of a line drawn along the Dundalk-Carrickmacross Road;

and the townlands of Ballynahattin, Balriggan, Carn Beg, Carn More, Glebe, Redcow, Sportsman's Hall in the electoral division of Dundalk Rural.

Dundalk South

That part of the urban district of Dundalk not included in the electoral area of Dundalk Carlingford;

the electoral divisions of Castlering and Haggardstown; and those parts of the electoral divisions of Castletown and Dundalk Rural not included in the electoral area of Dundalk Carlingford.
