EUROPOL ACT, 1997 (CERTAIN PROVISIONS) (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1998.

I, JOHN O'DONOGHUE, Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14 (2) of the Europol Act, 1997 (No. 38 of 1997), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Europol Act, 1997 (Certain Provisions) (Commencement) Order, 1998.

2. The 1st day of October, 1998, is hereby fixed as the day on which the provisions of the Europol Act, 1997 (No. 38 of 1997), shall come into operation, other than the following provisions, namely—

(a) section 2, in so far as it relates to the 1996 Protocol and the 1997 Protocol, and

(b) section 10(1).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order brings into operation the provisions of the Europol Act, 1997 , with the exception of two provisions, viz., (1) section 2 in so far as it relates to the 1996 Protocol and the 1997 Protocol and (2) section 10(1).
