S.I. No. 113/1998 - Referendum Act, 1998 Referendum Commission (Establishment) (No. 2) Order, 1998.


The Minister for the Environment and Local Government, in exercise of the power conferred on him by section 2 of the Referendum Act, 1998 (No. 1 of 1998), hereby orders as follows:

1. This order may be cited as the Referendum Commission (Establishment) (No. 2) Order, 1998.

2. A Referendum Commission is hereby established to undertake the functions assigned to it by the Referendum Act, 1998 in relation to the proposal for the amendment of the Constitution contained in the Nineteenth Amendment of the Constitution Bill, 1998.

3. The date hereof the making of this order is hereby appointed as the day for the purposes of section 2(5).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This order establishes a referendum commission to prepare and distribute to the electorate, statements for and against the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, and to foster, promote and facilitate debate on the proposal.
