SEANAD (UNIVERSITY MEMBERS) GENERAL ELECTION (SPECIAL DIFFICULTY) ORDER, 1997.

Whereas it appears to the Minister for the Environment that, by reason of certain interference with the postal services occasioning non-delivery of ballot papers to certain electors, there is a special difficulty in relation to the holding of the Seanad (University Members) General Election, the poll at which shall close on the 6th day of August, 1997, at 11.00 a.m. the Minister for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 164 (1) of the Electoral Act, 1992 , order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Seanad (University Members) General Election (Special Difficulty) Order, 1997.

2. In this Order "the election" means the Seanad (University Members) General Election, the poll at which shall close on the 6th day of August, 1997 at 11.00 a.m.

3. Notwithstanding section 21 of the Seanad Electoral (University Members) Act, 1937 and paragraph 2 of the Seanad (University Members) General Election Order, 1997, the returning officer shall, in the case of electors to whom ballot papers were duly issued but not delivered by An Post for the election, send by post on the 15th day of July, 1997 to each such elector a ballot paper together with a form of declaration of identity.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order provides for the issue of a further set of voting documents in the case of certain electors where the original documents were not delivered.
