EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (SEED POTATOES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1997

 I, IVAN YATES, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purposes of giving effect to Council Directive 96/72/EC of 18 November 1996(1) hereby make the following Regulations:

(1)O.J. L304 of 27.11.96.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Seed Potatoes) (Amendment) Regulations, 1997.

(2) The European Communities (Seed Potatoes) Regulations, 1980 to 1994 and these Regulations may be cited together as the European Communities (Seed Potatoes) Regulations, 1980 to 1997.

2. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the European Communities (Seed Potatoes) Regulations, 1980 ( S.I. No. 343 of 1980 ).

3. Regulation 2 (2) of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the replacement of the words "and Commission Directive 93/17/EEC of 30 March, 1993" (inserted by the European Communities (Seed Potatoes) (Amendment) Regulations, 1994 ( S.I. No. 288 of 1994 )) with "; Commission Directive 93/17/EEC of 30 March, 1993 and Council Directive 96/72/EC of 18 November 1996".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations implement the provisions of Council Directive 96/72/EC which amends Council Directive 66/403/EEC by replacing the abbreviation "EEC" with the abbreviation "EC" in the relevant provisions and provide for a transitional period during which labels bearing the abbreviation "EEC" may continue to be used.
