DISEASES OF ANIMALS (NOTIFICATION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES) ORDER, 1995.

I, IVAN YATES, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 , 12 and 13 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), as adapted by the Agriculture and Food (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1993 ( S.I. No. 11 of 1993 ), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Diseases of Animals (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Order, 1995 and shall come into operation on the 20th day of October, 1995.

2. In this Order—

"animal" means, in the case of Rinderpest, cattle and, in the case of Sheep pox, sheep;

"carcase" means the carcase of an animal;

"disease" means Rinderpest or Sheep pox;

"diseased" means affected with a disease within the meaning of this Order.

3. Any person who has or has had in his possession or under his charge an animal or carcase which is diseased, or which he suspects to be diseased, and any veterinary surgeon who, by reason of an examination or otherwise, believes or suspects that an animal or carcase is so diseased, shall, with all practicable speed, notify the fact to—

( a ) the Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Dublin 2, or

( b ) an inspector at a District Veterinary Office of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
