MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT, 1947 (SECTION 11) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1994.

WHEREAS it appears to me to be necessary to enable effect to be given to amendments made to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea signed in London on behalf of the Government on the 1st day of November, 1974, to amend the Merchant Shipping Act, 1947 (No. 46 of 1947), so as to extend the scope of the Regulations which may be made under that Act:

NOW I, DAVID ANDREWS, Minister for the Marine, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1981 (No. 33 of 1981), and the Communications (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1987 ( S.I. No. 91 of 1987 ), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping Act, 1947 (Section 11) (Amendment) Order, 1994.

2. (1) Regulations made under section 11 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1947 (No. 46 of 1947), may include such provisions as may be necessary to give effect to amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea signed in London on behalf of the Government on the 1st day of November, 1974, which are made in accordance with Article VIII thereof.

(2) The following provisions of the said section (11) are hereby repealed:

( a ) in subsection (1), the words "to which this section applies", and

( b ) subsection (8).
