PROTECTION OF ANIMALS ACT, 1911 (SECTION 1) (VARIATION OF FINES) REGULATIONS, 1994.

I, BRIAN O'SHEA, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 20 of the Control of Dogs Act, 1986 (No. 32 of 1986), as adapted by the Agriculture and Food (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1993 ( S.I. No. 11 of 1993 ), and the Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1993 ( S.I. No. 45 of 1993 ), hereby make the following Regulations with respect to which, pursuant to that section, a draft has been laid before each House of the Oireachtas and a resolution approving of the draft has been passed by each such House:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Protection of Animals Act, 1911 (Section 1) (Variation of Fines) Regulations, 1994.

2. (1) Section 1 of the Protection of Animals Act, 1911 (as amended by section 20 of the Control of Dogs Act, 1986 (No. 32 of 1986)), is hereby amended by the substitution of "£1,000" for "£500" in each place where it occurs.

(2) Paragraph (1) of this Regulation shall not have effect as respects offences committed before the making of these Regulations.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations increase the amount of the fine on summary conviction for the offence of cruelty to animals under the Protection of Animals Act, 1911 (as amended) from £500 to £1,000.
