BOROUGH OF DROGHEDA LOCAL ELECTORAL AREAS ORDER, 1994.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 35 of the Local Government Act, 1941 (No. 23 of 1941), as amended by sections 3 and 87 of, and the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, 1963 (No. 19 of 1963), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Borough of Drogheda Local Electoral Areas Order, 1994.

2. The Borough of Drogheda Local Electoral Areas Order, 1979 ( S.I. No. 44 of 1979 ) is hereby revoked.

3. In this Order "the Borough" means the Borough of Drogheda as altered for the purposes of local elections by the Local Government (Boundaries) (Town Elections) Regulations, 1994 and references to the borough boundary shall be construed accordingly.

4. The Borough shall be divided into the local electoral areas set out in the first column of the Schedule to this Order.

5. (1) Each such local electoral area shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

(2) In the Schedule to this Order—

( a ) a reference to a line drawn along any bridge, river, road or street shall be construed as a reference to a line drawn along the centre of the bridge, river, road or street;

( b ) a reference to the point at which a river or road intersects the Borough boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of the river or road intersects the said boundary;

( c ) a reference to the point at which any road or street joins any road or street shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of the one would be joined by a line drawn along the centre of the other.

6. The number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each such local electoral area shall be the number set out in the third column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

7. The number of the said members to be elected for each such local electoral area who are to be aldermen shall be the number set out in the fourth column of the Schedule to this Order opposite the name of such local electoral area.

Commencing at the point where Ballymakenny Road intersects the borough boundary; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along Ballymakenny Road and Hardman's Gardens to the intersection of Hardman's Gardens by the imaginary easterly projection of the rear boundary of the curtilage of houses numbered 39 to 44 Patrick Street; thence commencing in a westerly direction and proceeding along the said imaginary projection and the said boundary to its junction with the eastern boundary of the curtilage of number 30 Sráid na Cille; thence in a southerly direction along the said boundary to its junction with the southern boundary of the said curtilage; thence in a westerly direction along the said boundary and its imaginary westerly projection to its intersection by Sráid na Cille; thence in a northerly direction along Sráid na Cille to its intersection by the imaginary north-easterly projection of the southern boundary of number 1 Sráid na Cille; thence commencing in a south-westerly direction and proceeding along the said imaginary projection, the said boundary and its imaginary north-westerly projection to its intersection by the eastern boundary of number 34 Patrick Street; thence in a north-westerly direction along the said boundary and an imaginary straight line joining the northern end of the last-mentioned boundary and the southern end of the eastern boundary of the Sports Ground immediately to the north of houses numbered 8 to 34 Patrick Street; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along the eastern and northern boundary of the said Sports Ground to its junction with the eastern boundary of the Telecom Éireann Telephone Exchange at Radharc na Páirce; thence in a northerly direction along the said boundary and its imaginary northerly projection to its intersection by Radharc na Páirce; thence in a westerly direction along Radharc na Páirce to its intersection by the imaginery southerly projection of the rear boundary of houses numbered 13 to 16 John Paul Court; thence in a northerly direction along the said imaginary projection and the said boundary to its junction with the northern boundary of number 13 John Paul Court; thence in a westerly direction along the last-mentioned boundary and the rear boundary of numbers 12, 11, 10 and 9 John Paul Court to its intersection by the imaginary southerly projection of the eastern boundary of number 55 George's Street; thence in a northerly direction along the said imaginary projection and the said boundary to its junction with the northern boundary of number 55 George's Street; thence in a north-westerly direction along the said boundary and its imaginary north-westerly projection to its intersection by George's Street, thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along George's Street, George's Square and the Boyne Bridge to its intersection by the River Boyne; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along the River Boyne to the point at which it intersects the borough boundary; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the borough boundary to the starting point.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order divides the Borough of Drogheda into three electoral areas for the purposes of local elections and fixes the number of members of the Council of the Borough to be elected for each area and the number of those members who are to be aldermen.
