JURISDICTION OF COURTS AND ENFORCEMENT OF JUDGEMENTS ACT, 1993 (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1993.

I, MERVYN TAYLOR, Minister for Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1(3) of the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgements Act, 1993 (No. 9 of 1993), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgements Act, 1993 (Commencement) Order, 1993.

2. The 1st day of December, 1993, is hereby fixed as the day on which the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgements Act, 1993 (No. 9 of 1993) shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes 1 December 1993 as the date on which the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgments Act, 1993 comes into operation.

On that date the 1989 Convention on the Accession of Spain and Portugal to the Convention on Jurisdiction and Enforcement of Judgements in Civil and Commercial Matters and the Protocol on its interpretation (both as amended by the 1978 Convention of Accession of Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom, and the 1982 Convention of Accession of Greece) will enter into force between Ireland, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.

On that date also, the Lugano Convention will enter into force between Ireland, Finland, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
