SOCIAL WELFARE (ADULT DEPENDANT) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1993.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 2 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 (No. 1 of 1981 ) (as amended by section 3 of the Social Welfare (No. 2) Act, 1985 (No. 14 of 1985)) and section 3 of the said Act of 1981, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1 Short title and collective citation.

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Adult Dependant) (Amendment) Regulations, 1993.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Adult Dependant) Regulations, 1986 and 1990, shall be construed together as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Adult Dependant) Regulations, 1986 to 1993.

2 Earnings disregard.

2. Article 4 of the Social Welfare (Adult Dependant) Regulations, 1986 ( S.I. No. 369 of 1986 ) (as amended by article 4 of the Social Welfare (Adult Dependant) (Amendment) Regulations, 1990 ( S.I. No. 137 of 1990 ) is hereby amended by the substitution of "£60" for "£55" in each place in which it appears.

3 Application.

3. These Regulations shall come into operation—

( a ) on the 2nd day of June, 1993 for the purposes of unemployment assistance,

( b ) on the 3rd day of June, 1993 for the purposes of unemployment benefit,

( c ) on the 7th day of June, 1993 for the purposes of disability benefit, injury benefit and disablement benefit,

( d ) on the 10th day of June, 1993 for the purposes of invalidity pension, retirement pension and pre-retirement allowance,

( e ) on the 11th day of June, 1993 for the purposes of old age (contributory) pension, old age pension and blind pension.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These regulations provide for an increase from £55 to £60 in the income limit which is used in determining whether a person is to be regarded as an adult dependant for social welfare payment purposes. The increased limit takes effect, in general, from the beginning of June, 1993.
