SOCIAL WELFARE (VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTORS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1989

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 11 (1) (a) of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 (No.1 of 1981 ), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Voluntary Contributors) (Amendment) Regulations, 1989.

2. Where in any contribution year commencing on or after the 6th day of April, 1988, a voluntary contributor has no reckonable income or where such income does not exceed the sum of £4,750, in determining the amount of a voluntary contribution to be paid by such contributor in any contribution year commencing on or after the 6th day of April, 1989, the amount of his income shall be taken to be £4,750.

3. These Regulations shall be construed as one with the Social Welfare (Voluntary Contributors) Regulations, 1979 to 1988 and may be cited with such Regulations as the Social Welfare (Voluntary Contributors) Regulations, 1979 to 1989.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations provide for the continuance of the provisions relating to the minimum contribution payable by voluntary contributors under the social insurance system. Under these provisions, where a voluntary contributor's reckonable income does not exceed £4,750, for the purpose of determining voluntary contributions to be paid by him, the amount of his income is taken to be £4,750.
