FOREIGN BIRTHS (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1988.

I, BRIAN LENIHAN, Minister for Foreign Affairs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 27 (5) of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956 (No. 26 of 1956), as adapted by the External Affairs (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1971 ( S.I. No. 158 of 1971 ), hereby, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, make the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Foreign Births (Amendment) Regulations, 1988.

(2) The Foreign Births Regulations, 1956 to 1985, and these Regulatins may be cited together as the Foreign Births Regulations, 1956 to 1988.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1989.

3. In these Regulations—

"the Regulations of 1981" means the Foreign Births (Amendment) Regulations, 1981 ( S.I. No. 259 of 1981 );

"the Regulations of 1985" means the Foreign Births (Amendment) Regulations, 1985 ( S.I. No. 363 of 1985 ).

4. The Foreign Births Regulations, 1956 ( S.I. No. 224 of 1956 ), as adapted by the External Affairs (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1971 ( S.I. No. 158 of 1971 ), are hereby amended:

( a ) in Regulation 7—

(i) by the substitution of "£32" for "sixteen pounds" (inserted by Regulation 3 of the Regulations of 1981), and

(ii) by the substitution of "£100"for "fifty pounds" (inserted by Regulation 4 of the Regulations of 1985);

( b ) in Regulation 12—

(i) by the substitution of "£32" for "sixteen pounds" (inserted by Regulation 3 of the Regulations of 1981), and

(ii) by the substitution of "£100" for "fifty pounds" (inserted by Regulation 4 of the Regulations of 1985);

and the said Regulations 7 and 12, as so amended, are set out in paragraphs 1 and 2, respectively, of the Table to this regulation.

1.7. The fee to be charged for registration in a foreign births entry book shall be £32 in the case of the registration of a person under eighteen years of age and £100 in the case of every other registration.

2.12. The fee to be charged for registration in the foreign births register shall be £32 in the case of the registration of a person under eighteen years of age and £100 in the case of every other registration.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The purpose of these Regulations is to

( a ) to increase the fee for Foreign Births Registration to £100 where the person to be registered is over 18 years of age;

( b ) to increase the fee for Foreign Births Registration to £32 where the person to be registered is under 18 years of age.
