SOCIAL WELFARE (SUPPLEMENTARY WELFARE ALLOWANCES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1988.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 , 209 and 219 of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 (No. 1 of 1981), hereby makes the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1988.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to 1987 may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 to 1988.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 25th day of July, 1988.

3. In these Regulations "the Regulations of 1987" means the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1987 ( S.I. No. 281 of 1987 ).

4. Article 6 (as amended by the Regulations of 1987) of the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Regulations, 1977 ( S.I. No. 168 of 1977 ) is hereby amended—

(a) as respects persons to whom article 3 (b) of the Regulations of 1987 does not apply, by the substitution in sub-articles (1) (a) and (2) of "£3.10" for "£3", and

(b) as respects persons to whom article 3 (b) of the Regulations of 1987 applies, by the substitution in sub-articles (1) (a) and (2) of "£1.60" for "£3".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations increase from £3 to £3.10 the minimum rent which must be paid by claimants and recipients of rent supplements under the supplementary welfare allowances scheme. They also increase from £1.50 to £1.60 the minimum rent applicable to persons covered by a transitional provision made in 1987.
