JURISDICTION OF COURTS AND ENFORCEMENT OF JUDGMENTS (EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES) ACT, 1988 (COMMENCEMENT) ORDER, 1988.

I, GERARD COLLINS, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 15 (3) (a) of the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgments (European Communities) Act, 1988 (No. 3 of 1988), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgments (European Communities) Act, 1988 (Commencement) Order, 1988.

2. The Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgements (European Communities) Act, 1988 (No. 3 of 1988), other than section 3 in so far as it relates to the 1982 Accession Convention, shall come into operation on the 1st day of June, 1988.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order fixes 1 June 1988 as the date on which the Jurisdiction of Courts and Enforcement of Judgments (European Communities) Act 1988 comes into operation except for section 3 in so far as it relates to the 1982 Greek Accession Convention. On that date the Convention on Jurisdiction and the Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters and the Protocol on its interpretation (both as amended by the 1978 Convention on the Accession of Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom) will enter into force between Ireland and Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
