S.I. No. 19 of 1988.

NATIONAL SOCIAL SERVICE BOARD REGULATIONS, 1988.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by subsection (2) of section 4 and subsection (7) of section 6 of the National Social Service Board Act, 1984 (No. 2 of 1984), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the National Social Service Board Regulations, 1988.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 15th day of February, 1988.

3. In these Regulations—

"the Act" means the National Social Service Board Act, 1984 ;

"the Minister" means the Minister for Health;

"the Board" means the National Social Service Board established by section 3 of the National Social Service Board Act, 1984 .

4. In addition to the functions conferred on it by subsection (1) of section 4 of the Act, the following functions are hereby conferred on the Board:—

to report to the Minister every six months as to the manner in which aspects of accessibility, co-ordination or awareness of health services which particularly hinder the promotion of health or the encouragement of individual responsibility for personal health can be improved.

5. There shall be added to the functions referred to at paragraph (c) of subsection (1) of section 4 of the Act the following:—

and in this respect to promote, develop and encourage voluntary community activity in relation to social services.

6. The functions referred to at paragraphs (d) and (e) of subsection (1) of section 4 of the Act are hereby withdrawn from the Board.

7. The number of members of the Board in addition to the Chairman and Vice-Chairman shall be five.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The general effect of these Regulations is;

— to vary the functions of the National Social Service Board by conferring on it certain additional functions and withdrawing certain other functions.

— to vary the number of members on the Board from a minimum of eight members to five members in addition to the Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
