NATURE RESERVE (PUFFIN ISLAND) RECOGNITION ORDER, 1987.

I, RAY MACSHARRY, Minister for Finance, after consultation with the Minister for Agriculture and Food, the Minister for the Marine, and the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland and the council of the county of Kerry, being satisfied by the person who is the occupier of the land specified in Article 2 of the following Order, that the said land so specified includes an ecosystem described in paragraph (a) of section 15 (2) of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), and that the interest of the said person in or over the said land is such as to enable the person to establish and manage a nature reserve on the said land, and that the person can, in accordance with any conditions which the Minister for Finance sees fit to impose, use or manage the said land so as to establish and maintain, or maintain as may be appropriate, a nature reserve on the said land hereby, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 16 of the said Act, as adapted by the Wildlife (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1987 ( S.I. No. 156 of 1987 ), order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Nature Reserve (Puffin Island) Recognition Order, 1987.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 23rd day of September, 1987.

2. (1) The land specified in paragraph (2) of this Article is hereby recognised as a nature reserve.

(2) The land referred to in paragraph (1) of this Article is all that part of the land situate in the townland of Puffin Island in the county of Kerry and surrounding islets and rocks and shown enclosed within the inner margin of the black line and lettered ABCDE on the map annexed hereto.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Nature Reserve (Puffin Island) Recognition Order, 1987 recognises the land known as Puffin Island in county Kerry, and shown on map annexed to the Order, as a nature reserve under section 16 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 so that it can be managed in such a way as to ensure the conservation of the marine ecosystem which it constitutes.
