WEIGHTS AND MEASURES (VERIFICATION AND STAMPING FEES) ORDER, 1987.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 9 of the Weights and Measures Act, 1904, hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This order may be cited as the Weights and Measures (Verification and Stamping Fees) Order, 1987.

(2) This order shall come into operation on the 8th day of may, 1987.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (no. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The fees specified in the Schedule to this Order shall be paid in respect of the verification and stamping of the weights, measures and weighing and measuring instruments specified in that Schedule.

4. The Weights and Measures (Verification and Stamping Fees) Order, 1983 ( S.I. No. 351 of 1983 ), is hereby revoked.

1. On the verification and stamping of an imperial weight, measure, weighing or measuring instrument, the fee shall be that which is prescribed in this Schedule with respect to the equivalent in metric capacity.

2. Where any instrument has two sets of graduations of different form, double the appropriate fee shall be payable.

3. Where, in a weighing instrument, two weigh tables or platforms are connected to one indicator, two separate fees, in accordance with the capacities of the respective weigh tables or platforms are payable.

4. Unless otherwise provided for in this schedule an additional fee shall be payable, in the case of a weighing or measuring instrument constructed also to calculate and indicate the price in money, for the examination of the price-indicating mechanism equal in amount to that charged on the weighing or measuring instrument.

5. Where in an examination for verification and stamping of weights and measures and weighing and measuring instruments, weights, measures or instruments are found to be defective and are rejected, a fee shall be payable equal in amount to that which would have been chargeable if such weights, measures or instruments had been found to be free of defects.

6. Where any weighing or measuring instrument is required by the Weights and Measures (General) Regulations, 1928 (S. R. & O., No. 71 of 1928) to be verified in situ or where an application for the verification in situ of a weighing or measuring instrument which is not required by the said regulations to be so verified is granted by the Minister for Industry and Commerce, the cost of transport of the required standards and the travelling expenses of the inspector between the nearest Weights and Measures Office and the place at which the verification is made shall be payable in addition to the appropriate fee under this Order.
