MAXIMUM PRICES (BUTTER) ORDER, 1984.

The Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 22A and 22C (inserted by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1965 (No. 23 of 1965)) of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), as amended by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1972 (No. 20 of 1972), the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 96 of 1973 ), and the Trade, Commerce and Tourism (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1983 ( S.I. No. 384 of 1983 ), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Prices (Butter) Order, 1984.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 11th day of April 1984.

3. The maximum prices at which butter (other than butter in ½lb. foil wrapped packs containing no salt and marked as such by the manufacturer), whether foil wrapped or parchment wrapped, may be sold by retail shall be —

(a) in the case of butter in 1lb. parchment wrapped packs £0.94 per 1 lb.,

(b) in the case of butter in 1 lb. foil wrapped packs, £0.95 per 1 lb.,

(c) in the case of butter in ½ lb. parchment wrapped packs, £0.47 per ½ lb.,

(d) in the case of butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs, £0.47½ per ½ lb.,

(e) in the case of butter in 500 gram foil wrapped packs £1.05 per 500 grams,

(f) in the case of butter in 250 gram foil wrapped packs, £0.52½ per 250 grams,

(g) in any other cases, prices calculated at the rate of £0.94 per lb.

4. Where butter (other than butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs containing no salt and marked as such by the manufacturer) is sold by retail in a packet purporting to contain a specified weight of the butter, the packet shall be deemed, for the purposes of this Order, to contain that weight of butter.

5. The Maximum Prices (Butter) (No. 2) Order, 1983 ( S.I. No. 167 of 1983 ), is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes the maximum retail prices which may be charged for butter.
