HEALTH (EMULSIFIERS, STABILISERS, THICKENING AND GELLING AGENTS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 1982

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 54 of the Health Act 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), after consultation with the Minister for Industry and Energy, the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism and the Minister for Agriculture, hereby makes the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Health (Emulsifiers, Stabilisers, Thickening and Gelling Agents) (Amendment) Regulations 1982.

2. Part 1 of Schedule 1 to the Health (Emulsifiers, Stabilisers, Thickening and Gelling Agents) Regulations 1980 ( S.I. No. 35 of 1980 ) is hereby amended:

(1) By the deletion in Column 1 opposite the reference to Serial Number E 460 of the words "Microcrystalline cellulose" and the substitution therefor of the words -

"(i) Microcrystalline cellulose.

(ii) Powdered cellulose".

(2) By the insertion in Column 2 opposite the reference to "Xanthan gum" in Column 1 of the Serial Number "E.415", and

(3) By the deletion in Column 1 of the reference to "Ghatti gum".

3. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of September 1982.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend Part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Health (Emulsifiers, Stabilisers, Thickening and Gelling Agents) Regulations 1980 ( S.I. No. 35 of 1980 .) as follows:

In Column 1 "microcrystalline cellulose" is replaced by:

(i) microcrystalline cellulose.

(ii) powdered cellulose.

In Column 2 Serial No. E 451 is inserted in respect of xanthan gum.

In Column 1 ghatti gum is deleted.

The Regulations implement Directive No. 80/597/EEC of 29 May 1980.

The Regulations come into operation on 1st September 1982.
