S.I. No. 429/1981 - Protection of Young Persons (Prohibition on Employment of Children) Order, 1981.


I, LIAM KAVANAGH, Minister for Labour, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 4 (6) (b) of the Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act, 1977 (No. 9 of 1977), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Protection of Young Persons (Prohibition on Employment of Children) Order, 1981.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the first day of January, 1982.

3. Subject to Article 4 of this Order, an employer shall not employ children to do work during school terms.

4. This Order shall not apply to children who are full time students at an institute of secondary education and who are employed pursuant to—

(a) arrangements made, or approved of, by the Minister for Education as part of a programme of work experience, or

(b) any similar educational programme approved of by that Minister.
