S.I. No. 297/1981 - Telegraph (Foreign Written Telegram) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1981.


I, PATRICK COONEY, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, hereby make, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Telegraph (Foreign Written Telegram) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1981.

(2) The collective citation “the Telegraph (Foreign Written Telegram) Regulations, 1980 and 1981”, shall include these Regulations.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1981.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

4. The Telegraph (Foreign Written Telegram) Regulations, 1980 ( S.I. No. 198 of 1980 ), are hereby amended by the substitution of the following for the entries in the Schedule thereto (inserted by Regulation 4 of the Telegram (Foreign Written Telegram) (Amendment) Regulations, 1981 ( S.I. No. 108 of 1981 )):

2. The rates for Government Telegrams, Service Telegrams, Telegrams relating to the safety of life (S.V.H.), Telegrams relative to the application of the United Nations Charter and Telegrams concerning persons protected in time of war by the Geneva Conventions of 12 August, 1949 (RCT) (to places where these services are available) are the same as for ordinary private telegrams.

3. The rates for Letter Telegrams and Meteorological Telegrams (to destinations where these services are available) are half the rates for ordinary private telegrams.

7. Miscellaneous other services

(1) Services indications are charged for as one word at the appropriate rate for the category of telegram concerned.

(2) A supplementary charge as for seven words at the appropriate rate for the category of telegram concerned is made for a reply in the case of the following services:

(a) Notice of Delivery.

(b) Cancellation of a Telegram.
