S.I. No. 294/1981 - Telephone (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1981.


I, PATRICK COONEY, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, hereby make, with the consent of the Minister for Finance, the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Telephone (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1981.

(2) The collective citation “the Telephone Regulations, 1980 and 1981,” shall include these Regulations.

2. (1) These Regulations in so far as they specify connection charges for items of telephone equipment, subsidiary apparatus, private wires and tie lines shall come into operation on the 1st day of September, 1981.

(2) These Regulations in so far as they provide for matters other than those mentioned in paragraph (1), of this Regulation shall come into operation on the 1st day of October, 1981.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 , (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

4. In these Regulations “the Regulations of 1981” means the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1981 ( S.I. No. 106 of 1981 ).

5. The Telephone Regulations, 1980, ( S.I. No. 195 of 1980 ), are hereby amended by:

(a) the substitution of the following Schedule for the First Schedule thereto (inserted by Regulation 4 (a) of the Regulations of 1981):

Charges for Local Calls

To a subscriber

(a)  if he rents an exchange line without a coinbox

Charges for Subscriber Dialled Trunk Calls

In respect of each period or part of a period of time specified in the Table to this Schedule which is appropriate to the call and during which the call continues

(a)  the sum of 7.1p shall be charged to a subscriber without a coinbox,

(b)  the sum of 9.5p shall be charged to a subscriber with a coinbox for the first period of time, the sum of 4.75p for the second period of time and if the length of the call exceeds those periods combined, the aforementioned cycle of payment shall apply to such further time as the call continues,

(c)  the sum of 10p shall be paid or placed in the coinbox by a caller from a call office or coinbox exchange line for the first period of time, 5p for the second period of time and if the length of the call exceeds those periods combined, the aforementioned cycle of payment shall apply to such further time as the call continues.

In respect of every call

(a) made by a subscriber who rents an exchange line with a coinbox there shall be charged to the subscriber and paid by him, the charges stated in the table below, less 1p.

(b) made by a caller from a call office or from a coinbox exchange line, there shall be charged and paid or placed in the coinbox the charges as stated in the table below

The purpose of these Regulations is to provide for the following increases in charges:

Local Calls

charge to non-coinbox subscriber

from 6.75p to 7.1p

Trunk Calls
