EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (PESTICIDE RESIDUES) (FRUIT AND VEGETABLES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1981.

I, RAY MAC SHARRY, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), for the purpose of giving effect to Commission Directives Nos. 79/700/EEC of 24 July, 1979, 1 and 80/428/EEC of 28 March 1980, 2 and Council Directive No. 81/36/EEC of 9 February 1981, 3 hereby make the following Regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Pesticide Residues) (Fruit and Vegetables) (Amendment) Regulations, 1981, and shall come into force on the 25th day of May, 1981.

(2) European Communities (Pesticide Residues) (Fruit and Vegetables) Regulations, 1979 ( S.I. No. 183 of 1979 ), and these Regulations may be cited together as the European Communities (Pesticide Residues) (Fruit and Vegetables) Regulations, 1979 and 1981.

2. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the European Communities (Pesticide Residues) (Fruit and Vegetables) Regulations, 1979.

3. The taking of samples pursuant to Regulation 6(1) of the Principal Regulations shall be carried out in accordance with the methods described in the Annex to Commission Directive No. 79/700/EEC of 24 July, 1979.4

4. (1) Part I of the Schedule to the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the substitution of

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The Regulations:—

(1) provide that, for the purpose of testing for pesticide residues, fruit and vegetables shall be sampled in accordance with Directive No. 79/700/EEC.

(2) amend the European Communities (Pesticide Residues) (Fruit and Vegetables) Regulations, 1979 in respect of the maximum permitted residue levels of certain pesticides.
