MAXIMUM PRICES (BUTTER) ORDER, 1981.

The Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 22A and 22C (inserted by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1965 (No. 23 of 1965)) of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), as amended by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1972 (No. 20 of 1972), the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1973 (S.I. No. 96 or 1973), and the Industry, Commerce and Energy (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1980 ( S.I. No. 10 of 1980 ), hereby orders as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Prices (Butter) Order, 1981.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 22nd day of April, 1981.

3. The maximum prices at which butter (other than butter in ½lb. foil wrapped packs containing no salt and marked as such by the manufacturer), whether foil wrapped or parchment wrapped, may be sold by retail shall be—

( a ) in the case of butter in 1 lb. parchment wrapped packs, 79½p per 1 lb.,

( b ) in the case of butter in 1 lb. foil wrapped packs, 80½p per 1 lb.,

( c ) in the case of butter in ½ lb. parchment wrapped packs—

(i) if one pack only is comprised in the transaction, 40p per ½ lb.,

(ii) if more than one pack is comprised in the transaction, 40p per ½ lb. in the case of one of the packs and 39½p per ½ lb. in the case of each of the other packs,

( d ) in the case of butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs—

(i) if one pack only is comprised in the transaction, 40½p per ½ lb.,

(ii) if more than one pack is comprised in the transaction, 40½ per ½ lb. in the case of one of the packs and 40p per ½ lb. in the case of each of the other packs,

( e ) in the case of butter in 500 gramme foil wrapped packs, 88½p per 500 grammes,

( f ) in the case of butter in 250 gramme foil wrapped packs,—

(i) if one pack only is comprised in the transaction, 44½p per 250 grammes,

(ii) if more than one pack is comprised in the transaction, 44½p per 250 grammes in the case of one of the packs and 44p per 250 grammes in the case of each of the other packs,

( g ) in any other cases, prices calculated at the rate of 79½p per lb.

4. Where butter (other than butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs containing no salt and marked as such by the manufacturer) is sold by retail in a packet purporting to contain a specified weight of the butter, the packet shall be deemed, for the purposes of this Order, to contain that weight of butter.

5. The Maximum Prices (Butter) Order, 1980 ( S.I. No. 219 of 1980 ), is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes the maximum retail prices which may be charged for butter.
