MAXIMUM PRICES (SUGAR) ORDER, 1979.

The Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 22A and 22C (inserted by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1965 (No. 23 of 1965)) of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), as amended by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1972 (No. 20 of 1972), the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 96 of 1973 ), and the Industry and Commerce (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1977 ( S.I. No. 306 of 1977 ), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Prices (Sugar) Order, 1979.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 17th day of September, 1979.

3. The maximum prices at which granulated white sugar may be sold by retail shall be—

( a ) in the case of a package purporting to contain 1 kilogram of such sugar, 37½p;

( b ) in the case of a package purporting to contain an amount other than 1 kilogram of such sugar, a price calculated at the rate of 37½p per kilogram.

4. The Maximum Prices (Sugar) Order, 1978 ( S.I. No. 283 of 1978 ), is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes the maximum retail price which may be charged for granulated white sugar.
