MAXIMUM PRICES (BUTTER) ORDER, 1979.

The Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 22A and 22C (inserted by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1965 (No. 23 of 1965)) of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), as amended by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1972 (No. 20 of 1972), the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 96 of 1973 ), and the Industry and Commerce (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1977 ( S.I. No. 306 of 1977 ), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Prices (Butter) Order, 1979.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 2nd day of July, 1979.

3. The maximum prices at which butter (other than butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs containing no salt and marked as such by the manufacturer), whether foil wrapped or parchment wrapped, may be sold by retail shall be—

( a ) in the case of butter in 1 lb. foil wrapped packs, 65½p per 1lb.,

( b ) in the case of butter in 1 lb. parchment wrapped packs, 64½p perlb.,

( c ) in the case of butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs—

(i) if one pack only is comprised in the transaction, 33p per ½ lb.,

(ii) if more than one pack is comprised in the transaction, 33p per ½lb. in the case of one of the packs and 32½p per ½ lb. in the case of each of the other packs.

( d ) in the case of butter in ½ lb. parchment wrapped packs—

(i) if one pack only is comprised in the transaction, 32½p per ½ lb.,

(ii) if more than one pack is comprised in the transaction, 32½p per ½ lb. in the case of one of the packs and 32p per ½ lb. in the case of each of the other packs,

( e ) in the case of butter in 500 gramme foil wrapped packs, 72p per 500 grammes,

( f ) in the case of butter in 250 gramme foil wrapped packs, 36p per 250 grammes,

( g ) in any other cases, prices calculated at the rate of 64½p per lb.

4. Where butter (other than butter in ½ lb. foil wrapped packs containing no salt and marked as such by the manufacturer) is sold by retail in a packet purporting to contain a specified weight of the butter, the packet shall be deemed, for the purposes of this Order, to contain that weight of butter.

5. The Maximum Prices (Butter) (No. 3) Order, 1978 ( S.I. No. 373 of 1978 ) is hereby revoked

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes the maximum retail prices which may be charged for butter and revokes the Maximum Prices (Butter) (No. 3) Order, 1978.
