EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (WIRE-ROPES, CHAINS AND HOOKS) REGULATIONS, 1979.

I, GENE FITZGERALD, Minister for Labour, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act, 1972 (No. 27 of 1972), and for the purpose of giving effect to Council Directive1 73/361/EEC of the 19th day of November, 1973, and Commission Directive2 76/434/EEC of the 13th day of April, 1976, hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Wire-Ropes, Chains and Hooks) Regulations, 1979.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 15th day of June, 1979.

3. Nothing contained in any Enactment or Regulation specified in the Schedule to these Regulations shall be construed as prohibiting or restricting, for reasons of certification or marking, the placing on the market of lifting equipment referred to in Article 1 of Council Directive 73/361/EEC of the 19th day of November, 1973.

Mines (General) Regulations, 1975 ( S.I. No. 331 of 1975 ).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations stipulate that nothing contained in the Factories Act, 1955 and the Mines and Quarries Act, 1965 , or in relevant regulations made under either Act, shall be construed, for reasons of certification or marking, as prohibiting or restricting the placing on the market of certain lifting equipment.
