MAXIMUM PRICES (CHICKENS) ORDER, 1979.

The Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 22A and 22C (inserted by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1965 (No. 23 of 1965)) of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), as amended by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1972 (No. 20 of 1972), the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 96 of 1973 ), and the Industry and Commerce (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1977 ( S.I. No. 306 of 1977 ) hereby orders as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Prices (Chickens) Order, 1979, and shall come into operation on the 5th day of February, 1979.

2. The maximum prices at which chickens (other than live chickens) may be sold by retail shall be—

( a ) in the case of chickens sold by imperial measure—

(i) 62p per lb. if sold with giblets, or

(ii) 64p per lb. if sold without giblets,

( b ) in the case of chickens sold by metric measure—

(i) 137p per kilogram if sold with giblets, or

(ii) 141p per kilogram if sold without giblets.

3. Where a wrapping purports to contain a chicken of a specified weight, it shall for the purposes of this Order be deemed to contain a chicken of that weight.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes the maximum retail prices as shown in the Order which may be charged for chickens.
