OIREACHTAS (ALLOWANCES TO MEMBERS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1978.

I, SEOIRSE Ó COLLA, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1962 (No. 32 of 1962), hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 1978.

(2) The Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Regulations, 1963 to 1975, and these Regulations may be cited together as the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Regulations, 1963 to 1978.

2. The restrictions contained in paragraphs (c) and (d) of Regulation 5 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Regulations, 1963 ( S.I. No. 4 of 1963 ), as amended by Regulation 2 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 1963 ( S.I. No. 276 of 1963 ), and Regulation 5 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 1975 ( S.I. No. 112 of 1975 ), shall, as respects members of Dáil Éireann, have effect subject to the following qualifications:

(i) when the member concerned applies for the weekly issue to him of Official Paid envelopes, the Clerk of Dáil Éireann shall each week issue to the member concerned not more than one hundred such envelopes;

(ii) Official Paid envelopes issued in accordance with any such application may be posted by the member himself.

3. The qualifications specified in Regulation 5 (1) of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Amendment) Regulations, 1975, shall cease to have effect.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations provide that, out of the maximum of 300 envelopes which a Deputy is entitled to have posted free of charge each week, up to 100 (rather than up to 50 as hitherto) may be Official Paid envelopes which may be posted by the Deputy himself.
