MAXIMUM PRICES (SUGAR) ORDER, 1977.

The Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 22A and 22C (inserted by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1965 (No. 23 of 1965)) of the Prices Act, 1958 (No. 4 of 1958), as amended by the Prices (Amendment) Act, 1972 (No. 20 of 1972), and the Prices Stabilisation Order, 1973 ( S.I. No. 96 of 1973 ), hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Prices (Sugar) Order, 1977.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 6th day of August, 1977.

3. The maximum prices at which granulated white sugar may be sold by retail shall be—

( a ) in the case of a package containing 1 lb. of such sugar, 14½p;

( b ) in the case of a package containing 2 lbs. of such sugar. 28½p;

( c ) in the case of a package containing more than 2 lbs. of such sugar, a price calculated at the rate of 28½p per 2 lbs.;

( d ) in the case of a package containing 1 kilogram of such sugar, 31½p;

( e ) in the case of a package containing more than 1 kilogram of such sugar, a price calculated at the rate of 31½p per kilogram.

4. The Maximum Prices (Sugar) Order, 1976 ( S.I. No. 235 of 1976 ), is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order fixes the maximum retail prices which may be charged for granulated white sugar in both imperial and metric sizes.
