S.I. No. 187/1977 - Garda Síochána (Representative Bodies) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1977.


I, PATRICK COONEY, Minister for Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 14 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925 (No. 7 of 1925), hereby, with the approval of the Government, make the following Regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Garda Síochána (Representative Bodies) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations, 1977.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3. Notwithstanding the provisions of the Garda Síochána (Representative Bodies) Regulations, 1962 ( S.I. No. 64 of 1962 ), as amended by the Garda Síochána (Representative Bodies) (Amendment) Regulations, 1976 ( S.I. No. 118 of 1976 )—

( a ) the members of the Representative Bodies that are provided for by Regulation 3 of those Regulations, as so amended, and that hold office on the commencement of these Regulations shall continue to hold office until the 31st day of December, 1977, or until the election of new members of each of those Representative Bodies has been completed, whichever is the earlier, and

( b ) the elections in the year 1977 under those Regulations, as amended, of members of each of those Representative Bodies shall be held as soon as may be practicable after the commencement of these Regulations.

4. The Garda Síochána (Representative Bodies) (Amendment) Regulations, 1977 ( S.I. No. 94 of 1977 ), are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations provide that the members of the Representative Bodies shall continue to hold office up to the 31st December, 1977 (instead of 30th June, 1977) or until the election of new Bodies whichever is the earlier and that elections in the year 1977 shall be held as soon as may be practicable.
