APPRENTICESHIP EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AMENDMENT ORDER, 1976.

An Chomhairle Oiliúna in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 49 of the Industrial Training Act, 1967 (No. 5 of 1967) hereby makes the following Order:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Apprenticeship Educational Qualifications Amendment Order, 1976.

2. In this Order:—

"the Rules of 1965 No. 1" shall mean the Apprenticeship Act (Trade of Electrician) (Educational Qualifications) Rules, 1965;

"the Rules of 1965 No. 2" shall mean the Apprenticeship Act (Trade of Motor Mechanic) (Educational Qualifications) Rules, 1965;

"the Rules of 1965 No. 3" shall mean the Apprenticeship Act (Furniture Trade) (Educational Qualifications) Rules, 1965;

"the Rules of 1966 No. 1" shall mean the Apprenticeship Act (Engineering and Metal Trade) (Educational Qualifications) Rules, 1966;

"the Rules of 1966 No. 2" shall mean the Apprenticeship Act, (Trade of Building and Construction) (Educational Qualifications) Rules, 1966;

"the Rules of 1966 No. 3" shall mean the Apprenticeship Act, (Trade of Dental Craftsman) (Educational Qualifications) Rules, 1966;

"the Rules of 1967" shall mean the Apprenticeship Act (Printing Trade) (Educational Qualifications) Rules, 1967;

3. (1) The Rules of 1965 No. 1, the Rules of 1965 No. 2, the Rules of 1965 No. 3, the Rules of 1966 No. 1 and the Rules of 1966 No. 3 are hereby amended by the substitution for Rule 2 thereof of the following rule:

"2. (1) A person entering on employment as an apprentice shall possess as a minimum requirement the following educational qualifications:—

( a ) Grade D in three subjects in the Group Certificate examination of the Department of Education, or

( b ) Grade D in three subjects in the Intermediate Certificate examination of the Department of Education, or

( c ) Grade D or an equivalent rating in three subjects in any examination accepted by An Chomhairle Oiliúna for the purposes of this Rule.

(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 2 (1) (a), (b) and (c) an applicant without the relevant educational qualifications may enter employment as an apprentice on obtaining An Chomhairle Oiliúna's prior approval."

(2) The Rules of 1966 No. 2 and the Rules of 1967 are amended by the substitution for Rules 2 and 3 and the Schedule thereof of the following:—

"2. (1) A person entering on employment as an apprentice shall possess as a minimum requirement the following educational qualifications:—

( a ) Grade D in three subjects in the Group Certificate examination of the Department of Education, or

( b ) Grade D in three subjects in the Intermediate Certificate examination of the Department of Education, or

( c ) Grade D or an equivalent rating in three subjects in any examination accepted by An Chomhairle Oiliúna for the purpose of this Rule.

(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 2 (1) (a), (b) and (c) an applicant without the relevant educational qualifications may enter employment as an apprentice on obtaining An Chomhairle Oiliúna's prior approval."

4. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of September, 1976.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

An Chomhairle Oiliúna (The Industrial Training Authority) was established under the Industrial Training Act, 1967 , to promote training in industry and commerce.

This Order amends the Apprenticeship Educational Qualifications Rules by substituting new educational requirements for persons entering employment by way of Apprenticeship.
