LOCAL ELECTIONS (PETITIONS AND DISQUALIFICATIONS) ACT, 1974 (SECTION 25) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1976.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 25 of the Local Elections (Petitions and Disqualifications) Act, 1974 (No. 8 of 1974) hereby orders as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Local Elections (Petitions and Disqualifications) Act, 1974 (Section 25) (Amendment) Order, 1976.

2. Article 3 (b) (i) of the Local Elections (Petitions and Disqualifications) Act, 1974 (Section 25) Order, 1974 ( S.I. No. 135 of 1974 ) is hereby amended by the insertion of"except the office of coroner under the Coroners Act, 1962 (No. 9 of 1962)", after "the Act of 1926 applies".

In accordance with section 25 (7) of the Local Elections (Petitions and Disqualifications) Act, 1974 , a draft of this Order was laid before and approved by each House of the Oireachtas. The necessary Resolutions were passed by Dáil Éireann on 21st January, 1976 and by Seanad Éireann on 27th January, 1976.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order made by the Minister for Local Government under section 25 of the Local Elections (Petitions and Disqualifications) Act, 1974 extends the category of offices and employments which a person may hold while at the same time being a member of a local authority, to include that of Coroner.
