UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE (DECLARATION OF URBAN AREA) ORDER, 1975.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 3 (1) of the Unemployment Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1938 (No. 2 of 1938) (as amended by Article 4 of the Exchequer and Local Financial Years Act (Adaptation of Enactments and Statutory Instruments) Order, 1974 ( S.I. No. 215 of 1974 )) and Article 4 of the Social Welfare (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1947 (S.R. & O. 1947 No. 18) and after consultation with the council of the urban district of Killarney, hereby orders as follows:—

1. This order may be cited as the Unemployment Assistance (Declaration of Urban Area) Order, 1975.

2. The urban district of Killarney shall on the first day of January, 1976, be an urban area for the purposes of the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933 (No. 46 of 1933), the Unemployment Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1935 (No. 38 of 1935) and the Unemployment Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1938 .

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The effect of this order is to place the urban district of Killarney, by reason of its population exceeding 7,000, in the category of urban areas in which resident recipients of unemployment assistance are entitled to a higher scale of payments and in which the urban authority is consequentially liable to contribute an annual sum to the Minister for Social Welfare by way of a levy on the rateable valuation of the area.
