SOCIAL WELFARE (MODIFICATIONS OF INSURANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1974.

The Minister for Social Welfare in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) and by section 12 of the said Act as amended by section 6 of the Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1964 (No. 28 of 1964) hereby makes the following Regulations :—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1974.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 to 1972, shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 to 1974.

2. Sub-article (1) of Article 5 of the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 (No. 236 of 1956) is hereby amended by the addition of the following sub-paragraph :—

"( k ) pensionable employment on or after 1st April, 1974 as a teacher in a training college recognised by the Minister for Education for teachers in national schools".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 so as to provide for the application as from 1 April, 1974, of the reduced rates of employment contributions giving title to widow's (contributory) pension, orphans' (contributory) allowance, deserted wife's benefit and occupational injuries benefit to persons in pensionable employment as teachers in training colleges recognised by the Minister for Education for Teachers in national schools, as in the case of other classes of pensionable teachers.
