INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS (SECTION 44) (CARAVANS AND MOBILE HOMES) ORDER, 1974.

I, JUSTIN KEATING, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 44 (1) of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961 (No. 20 of 1961) hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Industrial Research and Standards Act (Section 44) (Caravans and Mobile Homes) Order, 1974.

2. It shall be unlawful on or after the 1st day of January, 1975, to manufacture, assemble or sell a caravan or mobile home unless it complies with Irish Standard 168: 1973 (being the standard specification for the ventilation of caravans and mobile homes declared by the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards).

3. In the period commencing on the 1st day of June, 1974, and ending on the 31st day of December, 1974, it shall be unlawful to manufacture, assemble or sell a caravan or mobile home unless it complies with the following condition, that is to say, the caravan or mobile home, as the case may be, contains the following notice of warning which shall be prominently fixed in a position where it can be easily and readily seen:

WARNING

DO NOT BLOCK VENTILATORS

BLOCKING OR COVERING MAY CAUSE DEATH

The words on the said notice of warning shall be—

( a ) in red letters on a contrasting background and

( b ) not less than 4 mm in height.

4. This Order shall apply only to a caravan or mobile home intended for sale to the public in the State.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of this Order is to prohibit the manufacture, assembly or sale of caravans and mobile homes unless they comply initially with the prescribed warning requirements and subsequently with the prescribed warning and ventilation requirements.
