INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND STANDARDS ACT (SECTION 44) (ELECTRICAL MAINS SOCKET-OUTLETS) ORDER, 1973.

I, JUSTIN KEATING, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 44 (1) of the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961 (No. 20 of 1961), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Industrial Research and Standards Act (Section 44) (Electrical Mains Socket-Outlets) Order, 1973.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of September, 1974.

3. This Order applies to any electrical mains socket-outlet which—

( a ) is intended for permanent installation in domestic or similar premises, and

( b ) is intended for sale to the public in the State.

4. This Order does not apply to electrical mains socket-outlets forming an integral unit with a special isolating transformer and intended exclusively for electric clocks or electric shavers.

5. It shall be unlawful to manufacture, assemble or sell an electrical socket-outlet to which this Order applies unless it complies with Irish Standard 180: 1973 (being the standard specification for the rating and dimensions of electrical socket-outlets for domestic and similar use declared by the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of this Order is to prohibit the manufacture, assembly or sale of electrical socket-outlets to which the Order applies unless they comply with the prescribed rating and dimension requirements.
